Matiur Rahman is the editor of the most popular daily newspaper in Bangladesh, Daily Prothom Alo. He was born in 2nd January,1946 in Kolkata, India. He passed S.S.C form Nawabpur Govt. High School in 1961 and H.S.C from Dhaka College in 1963. He completed his higher education from Dhaka University in Statistics.
During his student life, he was the member of “East Pakistan Students’ Union” and general secretary of “Cultural Union” (1965-1968) of Dhaka University wings. He was a student leader at central committee of Students’ Union from 1962 to 1966. of And then he started to move actively as a member of Communist Party of Bangladesh from 1973 to 1990.
Matiur Rahman started his career in journalism and as the Editor of socialist weekly “Ekota” from 1970 to 1991.
After he left Ekota, he worked as a journalist for Ajker Kagoj, which was Bangladesh’s first modern newspaper. He founded “Bhorer Kagoj” with some other partners in february 1992 and also worked as editor till 1998. In 1998, Matiur Rahman founded “Prothom Alo”. Mr. Rahman is the editor of the newspaper since 1998. He is also the publisher of Prothom Alo.
Besides these, Matiur Rahman is the Vice-President of “Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh”, a member of “National Press Club” and also a member of “8th Wage Board Commission of Bangladesh.” He is the recipient of the 2005 Ramon Magsaysay Award in journalism, literature and creative communication arts category.
