Anisul Hoque is a renowned Bangladeshi author, screenwriter, novelist, dramatist, columnist and journalist. Currently, Hoque is working as an Associate Editor of daily Prothom Alo and the editor of monthly youth magazine Kishor Alo. One of his famous books, “Maa”, is written based on the true circumstance during the liberation war.
He was born in Nilphamary district of Rangpur Division on 4th March,1965. He passed SSC from Rangpur Zilla School in 1981 and HSC from Rangpur Carmichael College in 1983. He secured 3rd place in SSC and 8th place in HSC in combined merit list in the whole country. He completed his graduation from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Civil Engineering. He appeared at Bangladesh Civil Service examination after graduation and joined Bangladesh Railway in 1966. He resigned from there within 15 days and started working as a journalist. He attended the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2010. Due to his excellent contribution to Bangla Literature, he received several awards like Bangla Academy Literary Award (2012), Khulna Writers Club Award, Kobi Mozammel Haque Foundation Award, Khalekdad Chowdhury Literature Award 1415, City Bank Ananda Alo Award for Best Novel (2009), Euro Shishu Sahitya Award (2006) and পাঞ্জেরী ছোটকাকু আনন্দ আলো শিশুসাহিত্য পুরস্কার (2019). As a scriptwriter, he has won BACHSAS Award for Best Screenplay and TENASINAS Award for Best Screenplay.
